3 things are essential to successfully drive your Defender - GO, STOP and STEER.   APT know this and have manufactured this Defender specific Monster Drag Link to ensure the safe steering of your Land Rover in Australia’s tough conditions.  The drag link sits low on the Defender, so it's vulnerable to hits when 4Wding. It's also prone to damage from excessive compression loads when steering the weight of the vehicle against a rock or embankment.  Compression loads and hits can result in the drag link’s thin factory wall bending.  With the right tools, it is possible to perform a track side straightening of the drag link - which will be enough to allow you to drive home - but safety is compromised... and your 4 wheeling adventure is over for the day

The Raw Facts

  • More than three times stronger.  The APT Monster Drag Link 4140 Chromoly is a massive 930 MPa… which is three time stronger than the normal after-market drag links which are 300 MPa steel
  • Chromoly has inherent elasticity whereby it reflexes back to its original shape rather than bending and then not rebounding back to its original shape
  • Left and right hand threads are properly machined into the tube at each end as opposed to using welded sleeves which makes the steel brittle and weaker
  • The ease of install full sized high tensile nuts are provided

Material

  • More than three times stronger.  The APT Monster Drag Link 4140 Chromoly is a massive 930 MPa… which is three time stronger than the normal aftermarket drag links which are 300 MPa solid steel with a 30mm diameter
  • We use 30mm diameter solid Chromoly which is a bit thicker than the factory 25mm factory hollow steel diameter.  Due to the use of Chromoly and solid round bar, the APT Monster Drag Link is incomparable in strength to the standard factory Drag Link
  • Chromoly has inherent elasticity whereby it reflexes back to its original shape rather than bending and then not rebounding back to its original shape
  • Chromoly requires more pressure/force for forming because it is tougher than plain/carbon steel.  Chromoly has superior surface impact qualities

Machining and Nuts

  • The APT Monster Drag Link has a left and right hand thread which are properly machined into the tube at each end
  • The high tensile nuts are full sized as opposed to the half -width nuts that are sometimes provided which means you have less chance of damage when installing

Fitting

  • It’s a straight forward install and we highly recommend a wheel alignment after install
  • Must use anti-seize to prevent thread galling
  • Can reuse tie rod ends if they are in good condition

  • FAQ: Drag Links are the shorter rod, it connects the steering box to the wheel and sit at an angle in front of the diff.  The Track Rods are the longer rod that sits under the diff parallel to the ground
  • Product Code AO9326
  • Weight - 3.8 kg
  • Zinc powder primed and powder coated satin black for the best complete 2 coat coverage
  • APT advertises what material we make our products from so you know what you are paying for… as it’s the quality of material that we use that sets APT apart
